Dhurandhar First Look Review: Ranveer Singh Declares ‘Bigaadne Ka Waqt Aa Gaya Hai’ – Is the Original Beast Back?

The anticipation is finally over, and the original beast is back and more intense than ever! Ranveer Singh, known for his fierce portrayal of Alauddin Khilji in Padmaavat, is ready to unleash his primal side in the upcoming film Dhurandhar! The first look has been revealed, and it’s a whirlwind of emotions—anxiety, excitement, happiness, and adrenaline all rolled into one!

A Violent First Impression

Directed by Aditya Dhar, the first look of Dhurandhar immediately conveys a sense of violence, suggesting a relentless journey filled with bloodshed. However, does it serve a purpose? At first glance, it seems to promise depth rather than aimless brutality, unlike some other recent films.
Comparisons are inevitable, particularly with Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, as both actors share strikingly similar looks. In one shot, Ranveer is seen with blood splattered across his face, reminiscent of Animal’s promotional materials. Yet, as the teaser progresses, the similarities begin to fade.

Storyline and Supporting Cast

The first look also hints at a solid storyline, suggesting that the violence depicted serves a meaningful purpose. While the concept of “violence with purpose” is often contentious, Dhurandhar appears to be striving for that goal, according to what the teaser reveals.
The impact intensifies with the introduction of the supporting cast—Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal—all embodying characters that exude menace and chaos. Anti-heroes are not a new phenomenon in cinema, but they have evolved over the years, especially since Shah Rukh Khan’s portrayal in Darr. The lines between heroes and villains have blurred, creating complex characters.
The background score in the teaser competes strongly with the work of Arjan Vailly, enhancing the film’s dramatic tone. While Sandeep Reddy Vanga boldly redefined violence in Animal, promising an unapologetic portrayal of brutality, Dhurandhar seems to approach its themes with a nuanced perspective. It hints at violence that is not only impactful but also meaningful, leaving me both worried and intrigued about my growing fascination with the romanticization of violence.
