The recently released film Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, has come under scrutiny despite its light-hearted 90s-themed comedy. The film faced backlash for allegedly borrowing content from the hit horror comedy Stree 2, which also featured Rao alongside Shraddha Kapoor. In response to the criticism and trolling of the film, director Raaj Shaandilyaa has publicly issued an apology.
On October 12, Shaandilyaa, along with the film’s producers, took to the social media platform X to share a statement addressing the issue of ‘unauthorized’ content usage from Stree 2. In his note, he stated, “I, Raaj Shaandilyaa, director of ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video,’ on behalf of myself and the production companies — Super Cassettes Ind. Pvt. Ltd., Balaji Motion Pictures, and Wakaoo Films — extend our sincere and unconditional apology for the unauthorized use of characters and dialogue from Maddock Films’ franchise Stree in our film. We deeply regret any harm caused to Maddock Films and their franchise due to this infringement.
”The statement continued, “We are taking immediate steps to rectify the issue and are in the process of removing all infringing content from our film, including characters and dialogues from Stree. We aim to complete this process by Tuesday, October 15, 2024, to the full satisfaction of Maddock Films. We also commit to ensuring that no such unauthorized usage will occur in the future.” It further clarified, “Our film Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is in no way associated with Maddock Films, their Stree and Stree 2 franchises, or any of the characters therein. We make no claim to any intellectual property rights in Stree, Stree 2, or any related characters.”In response, Maddock Films expressed their appreciation for the filmmakers’ apology and the assurance that such issues would not recur. Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, which also features Mallika Sherawat, Tiku Talsania, Archana Puran Singh, and Vijay Raaz in key roles, was released in cinemas on October 11.
