Sukumar’s much-anticipated film Pushpa 2: The Rule, starring Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil, has made an impressive impact at the box office after completing its first nine days of release. According to Sacnilk.com, the film earned approximately Rs 36.25 crore net on its second Friday, bringing the total collection to around Rs 762.1 crore net in India. The first week was particularly strong, with a total of Rs 725.8 crore, which included Rs 10.65 crore from its premiere and an impressive Rs 164.25 crore on opening day.
Despite a minor decline in earnings on its first Friday, where it collected Rs 93.8 crore, Pushpa 2 rebounded during the weekend with Rs 119.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 141.05 crore on Sunday. The film maintained its momentum in the following week, recording net earnings of Rs 64.45 crore, Rs 51.55 crore, Rs 43.35 crore, and Rs 37.45 crore on successive days. Currently, Pushpa 2: The Rule is poised to challenge the lifetime box office record of Jr NTR and Ram Charan‘s RRR, which amassed ₹782.2 crore during its 10-week run in India. On the global front, the film has become the fastest Indian movie to surpass the ₹1,000 crore milestone and is now targeting the ₹1,100 crore mark. With its remarkable performance, Pushpa 2 has solidified its place among the highest Indian box office grosser of 2024, alongside Kalki 2898 AD, which also crossed the Rs 1,000 crore threshold.
Meanwhile, Stree 2, featuring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, has grossed Rs 874.58 crore this year. However, the film’s premiere was overshadowed by tragedy, as a stampede at the Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad resulted in one fan’s death and left her son critically injured. Following the incident, Allu Arjun was arrested for allegedly failing to inform the police about the large crowd. A leaked letter indicated that the management had indeed notified authorities and requested security arrangements. The Telangana High Court later granted Arjun a four-week interim bail after he was placed in a 14-day judicial remand. His arrest has drawn support from various celebrities, including Varun Dhawan, Nani, and Rashmika Mandanna.
