Aamir Khan’s production company, Aamir Khan Productions, previously submitted Lagaan (2001) and Taare Zameen Par (2007) as India’s official entries to the Oscars. Notably, Lagaan remains the only Indian film to reach the top five nominations at the 74th Academy Awards in 2002. With Laapataa Ladies now selected, it becomes the third film from Aamir’s banner to represent India at the Oscars.
