Anil Kapoor, known for his remarkable career and memorable films, has recently taken a significant step with his cult classic Nayak (2001). Although the political drama didn’t perform well at the box office initially, it gained a devoted fan following over the years. Fans have long clamored for a sequel, and Bollywood Hungama has learned that this dream might soon become reality.
A source revealed, “Producer Deepak Mukut, known for Sanam Teri Kasam (2016), held the rights to Nayak. It is said that Anil Kapoor has now purchased these rights. The film holds a special place in his heart, and he aspires to create a sequel. He understands the enduring love for Nayak and believes the story has great potential for a follow-up.”Efforts to reach Deepak Mukut for confirmation about selling the rights to Anil Kapoor were unsuccessful.
In an exclusive March 2024 interview with Bollywood Hungama, Deepak Mukut had shared, “I acquired the rights from Nayak’s original producer, Mr. A S Rathnam. I also hold the negative rights to several other films like Tejasvini (1994) and Dil Hi Dil Mein (1999). It’s been about a decade since I secured these rights.
”Nayak featured a stellar cast including Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, the late Amrish Puri, Paresh Rawal, Saurabh Shukla, Johny Lever, Shivaji Satam, and Neena Kulkarni. Pooja Batra made a cameo appearance, while Sushmita Sen featured in a song. Written and directed by Shankar, the film narrates the story of a fearless reporter who becomes the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for a day. His transformative changes in just 24 hours turn him into a national hero.
