After delivering actor Vicky Kaushal his biggest opener, “Bad Newz” swiftly entered its first Saturday, adding a decent figure to its box office collection. The romantic-comedy commenced its run at the ticket counters by earning Rs 8.3 crore on Friday, July 19. Subsequently, on its first Saturday, July 20, the film witnessed over 16 per cent growth.According to industry tracker Sacnilk, “Bad Newz” earned an estimated Rs 9.75 crore on Saturday, bringing its total box office collection to Rs 18.05 crore within two days. The film achieved an overall Hindi occupancy of 26.81 per cent, with the highest footfall recorded during the night shows.
Anticipated to maintain its upward trajectory even on Sunday, “Bad Newz” is expected to conclude its first weekend with an impressive total. The film’s real test, however, will come on Monday. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh commented on the film’s strong start at the box office, stating, “A strong start was on the cards thanks to the impactful trailer + hugely popular song [#TaubaTauba], but the best part is, the strong start, coupled with positive feedback, has set the stage for a solid weekend total.”Adarsh further projected that the first weekend total of “Bad Newz” would exceed Rs 30 crore, emphasizing the film’s strong performance at major centers.
Comparing the box office performance of “Bad Newz” to other mid-budget releases in 2024, the film has outperformed Kareena Kapoor’s “Crew” and Shahid Kapoor’s “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (TBMAUJ),” both of which targeted the city audience. Additionally, “Bad Newz” has surpassed the 2024 surprise hit, horror-comedy “Munjya,” in terms of box office collections within the same timeframe. Directed by Anand Tiwari, “Bad Newz” features an ensemble cast, including Seema Biswas, Manjari Fadnnis, Siddhant Kapoor, Trimala Adhikari, Rohit Khandelwal, Indraneil Sengupta, and Barkha Sengupta. The film is set to stream on Zee5 from July 26, and the recently released trailer promises an engaging slice-of-life drama.
