Shock waves within the film industry thanks to shockingly low collections,” tweeted Bollywood box office analyst Taran Adarsh on X (formerly Twitter). His comments followed the release of three films on August 2, none of which made a significant impact at the box office. Let us check the recent releases and the way these movies have performed at the box office as under:
Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, featuring veteran stars Ajay Devgn and Tabu, opened with disappointing earnings of just ₹1.85 crore on its release day. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Neeraj Pandey, the film saw a slight recovery with ₹2.15 crore on its second day, followed by a modest increase to ₹2.75 crore on Sunday. By the end of the weekend, the total collection stood at ₹6.75 crore, a disheartening figure given its production budget of ₹100 crore.
Another film released on the same day, Ulajh, starring Jahnvi Kapoor and Gulshan Devaiah, fared slightly better. It earned ₹1.15 crore on Friday, climbed to ₹1.75 crore on Saturday, and reached ₹2 crore on Sunday, totaling ₹4.90 crore for the weekend. Reports indicate that Ulajh had a production budget of ₹50 crore, making its box office performance less than satisfactory as well.
The third release, The Sabarmati Report, starring Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna, and Riddhi Dogra, created minimal buzz, with no available box office data reported. In July, Sarfira, featuring one of Bollywood’s biggest stars, Akshay Kumar, opened with only ₹2.5 crore despite its ₹100 crore budget, ultimately earning ₹33.53 crore worldwide.
Despite these disappointing numbers, interest in Bollywood remains high, as evidenced by Google searches. Some users remarked that only stars like SRK and Salman Khan could guarantee a successful opening, while others noted that Prabhas’s Kalki 2898 AD, released on June 27, continues to outperform the latest releases. “SRK is the savior,” stated one user, reflecting the sentiment among fans.
