CBFC Grants U/A Certificate to Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’ After Incorporating ‘Suitable’ Changes

King Khan’s Triumphant 2023 Concludes with Dunki’s Arrival: After dominating the year with Pathaan and Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan gears up for his final cinematic offering of 2023 – the highly anticipated Dunki. Marking his first collaboration with the acclaimed director Rajkumar Hirani, this December 21st release has SRK fans buzzing with excitement.

Fueling the anticipation further, recent updates reveal Dunki’s runtime of 2 hours and 41 minutes. Additionally, trade expert Girish Johar tweeted that the film has received a “U/A” certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification, meaning unrestricted viewing with parental discretion recommended for children under 12. Johar’s tweet read, “SUPER EXCLUSIVE #DUNKI gets ‘U/A’ from Censor.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) suggested minor adjustments to Dunki following its review, according to a report from Bollywood Hungama. These proposed edits include:

  • Anti-smoking messaging: Addition of anti-smoking messages at the beginning and before the second half.
  • Terminology change: Modification of a word in the opening scene to “immigrants.”
  • Content warning: Inclusion of a warning stating “Suicide is not a solution to any problems” before a specific scene.
  • Fact verification: Filmmakers provided supporting evidence for statistics and facts presented at the movie’s conclusion.
  • Visual adjustment: Minor alterations to visuals featuring Hardy (Shah Rukh Khan) in uniform on a horse during his wedding scene before the intermission.

These revisions highlight specific changes requested by the CBFC without editorializing or speculating on their rationale. This approach maintains objectivity and respects the film’s creative process while informing readers about the adjustments made.

Additionally, the requested fact verification and adjustments to visually sensitive scenes demonstrate the CBFC’s effort to ensure responsible representation and minimize misinterpretations. These modifications, alongside the runtime and U/A certification, offer further clues about Dunki’s tone and content, further fueling the pre-release anticipation for Shah Rukh Khan’s much-awaited collaboration with the renowned director.
