Rosshan Andrrews has officially made his directorial debut in Hindi cinema with the action drama Deva, which premiered in theaters on January 31. The film features Shahid Kapoor in the role of a cop, alongside Pooja Hegde, and recorded an opening day collection of approximately Rs 5 crore, according to Sacnilk. Despite the promising start, Deva fell short of surpassing Shahid’s previous film, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, which opened with Rs 6.7 crore. The film faced stiff competition at the box office from other high-profile releases, including Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force, Ram Charan’s Game Changer, and Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency.
According to Box Office India, Deva heavily relied on the Maharashtra region for its opening; however, it struggled in major cities like Mumbai and Pune, where turnout was disappointing. Furthermore, regions such as NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Central India also reported poor performance for this action-packed thriller, keeping its opening day collection around Rs 5 crore. Consequently, the film did not make it to Shahid’s top 10 openers, landing in the 11th spot, just behind Haider.
The update about its box office performance on day 1 was shared by several media groups on the social media, check the initial trend of the film as under:
