Ayushmann Khurrana can finally smile. His film, Dream Girl 2, had a great opening on Friday and continued to grow over the weekend, crossing the 40 crore mark. This makes it the third biggest weekend/first three days opener for the actor. This was something that Khurrana had been working towards for a long time. His last few releases had not been as successful, so it was important for him to have a hit with Dream Girl 2. And now, with the film doing well, he is back in the reckoning as one of the top actors in Bollywood.
Dream Girl 2 is doing even better than Ayushmann Khurrana’s last release before the pandemic, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. This is a good sign, as Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan was released after Khurrana had delivered six back-to-back successes. However, during the pandemic, Khurrana’s films have not been as successful. Dream Girl 2 is a welcome return to form for the actor. Here is a list of Ayushmann Khurrana’s top 5 films in terms of their weekend/first three days collections:
Dream Girl (2019): 44.57 crores
Bala (2019): 43.95 crores
Dream Girl 2 (2023): 40.71 crores
Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan (2019): 32.66 crores
Badhaai Ho (2018): 32.30 crores
Dream Girl and Bala both went on to become “century” hits, i.e. they grossed over 100 crores at the box office. Badhaai Ho too came from behind to emerge as the biggest hit of Khurrana’s career. Dream Girl 2 is still in its early days, but it is off to a good start and is expected to surpass the lifetime collection of Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan by Thursday.
