Kangana Ranaut’s political drama, Emergency, has been steadily making its mark at the box office. After 9 days of release, the film has amassed an impressive, estimated total of ₹17.68 crore. It is now just ₹1 lakh shy of surpassing the earnings of the re-released Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which stands at ₹17.69 crore.
The film, which features a riveting narrative about a significant historical event, is quickly approaching this milestone. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani—starring Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin, and Aditya Roy Kapur—was the first Hindi release of 2025. With Emergency performing well, it is poised to either match or exceed this figure in mere days. On its 9th day, January 25, the film earned between ₹85 lakh and ₹90 lakh, marking a remarkable surge of nearly 150% from the previous day’s earnings of ₹34 lakh.
This increase highlights the growing interest in the film as word-of-mouth spreads. In contrast, Kangana’s other film, Azaad, which also premiered recently, has been facing a tougher battle at the box office. Despite this, it has managed to collect an estimated ₹7.32 crore over 9 days. On its 9th day, Azaad earned between ₹15 lakh and ₹16 lakh, reflecting an increase of 36-45% from the previous day’s total of ₹11 lakh.
Notably, Emergency has outperformed Azaad by a significant margin, earning 2.41 times more in the same span.
