Guru Randhawa Responds with Cryptic Note Amid Backlash Over Song Azul

Singer Guru Randhawa recently shared a cryptic message on social media following criticism of his latest track, Azul. The song has drawn backlash for allegedly sexualizing schoolgirls and romanticizing an inappropriate teacher-student relationship.
In an Instagram Story written in Punjabi, Guru expressed a poignant thought about his emotions and public reaction. He wrote, “Jado mein sab nu khush karn lagga, dukhi ho gya. Ajj mein khud khush hann, sab dukhi ho gaye.” Translated, this means, “When I tried making everyone happy, I was sad. Today, when I am happy, everyone else is sad.” He concluded the note with “God” and a red heart emoji, hinting at his reliance on faith amidst the controversy.
Earlier, Guru had also posted a message expressing gratitude, highlighting the song’s trending status. He wrote, “Azul is Azuling,” accompanied by wine glass emojis, and added, “When God is with you, you only move forward,” along with a red heart emoji. So far, he has not issued a direct statement addressing the criticisms.

The Controversy Surrounding Azul

The music video for Azul features Guru Randhawa playing a photography teacher who visits a girls’ school to take a class photo. The scene that sparked outrage shows actress Anshika Pandey, portraying a student, performing a dance that leaves Guru’s character visibly mesmerized. The song was written and composed by Guru himself, with additional lyrics by Gurjit Gill. Critics argue the video glamorizes an inappropriate dynamic between a teacher and a student, fueling the backlash.

Additional Legal Trouble Over Song Sirra

Azul is not the only song causing trouble for Guru Randhawa. His track Sirra has also come under scrutiny. A complaint filed by Rajdeep Singh Mann from Samrala alleges that lyrics in Sirra promote drug use and defame the Jatt community. The contentious lines, “We are the sons of Jatts. We got opium as our first food when we were born,” have prompted legal action.

The sub-divisional judicial magistrate’s court has now ordered Guru Randhawa to appear in person or through a legal representative to address the complaint. This adds another layer to the challenges the singer is currently facing amid public and legal criticism.
