Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter has become a sensation on the OTT platform after its theatrical run. While the film was expected to be a major box office success, it fell short of expectations considering its scale and cost. However, the good news is that Fighter is now reaching a wider audience on the small screen and has even outperformed Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Prabhas’ Salaar with its debut numbers.
The combination of Hrithik and director Siddharth Anand, who previously collaborated on Bang Bang and War, failed to replicate their previous successes with Fighter. Despite investing a significantly higher budget to enhance the viewing experience, the film’s financial outcome suffered. With a budget ranging from 250-300 crores, Fighter couldn’t achieve a clean success despite its Indian collection of 212.50 crores. While this figure appears impressive on its own, a higher total was expected given the film’s production value.
However, Fighter has found tremendous success on the OTT platform. Since its release on Netflix on March 21st, the film has garnered an overwhelming response. According to official data published by Netflix, Fighter achieved 5.9 million views globally during its opening week (March 18th-24th). It secured the 3rd spot in the Films (Non-English) category for its debut week, indicating the genuine interest among viewers for this Hrithik Roshan starrer.
In terms of watch time, Fighter was viewed for a staggering 16.2 million hours on Netflix during its opening week. These numbers are a testament to the film’s popularity and the engagement it has generated among audiences.
In a remarkable feat, Fighter has surpassed the viewership numbers of Dunki and Salaar. Dunki, starring Shah Rukh Khan, garnered 4.9 million views during its opening week on Netflix. On the other hand, Prabhas’ magnum opus, Salaar, debuted with 1.6 million views (excluding the Hindi version). Fighter’s achievement of 5.9 million views in its opening week solidifies its position as a viewer favorite.
As Fighter continues to captivate audiences, it remains to be seen if the film can sustain its viewership in the coming weeks. The initial response suggests that Hrithik Roshan’s aerial action drama has struck a chord with viewers, and its popularity on the OTT platform is likely to endure.
