After several delays, Kangana Ranaut’s highly anticipated film Emergency is finally set to make its debut on the big screen. In an exciting update, the actress announced that the film’s trailer will be released on August 14. Taking to social media, Ranaut wrote, “Witness the Darkest Times of Democratic Indian History & the Lust For Power that almost burned down the Nation! #KanganaRanaut’s #EmergencyTrailer out on 14th August.”
An Explosive Look at a Dark Chapter in Indian History
Emergency is slated to hit theaters worldwide on September 6 and aims to explore one of the most controversial periods in India’s past. The film centers on the Emergency period from 1975 to 1977, a time when civil liberties were restricted and political dissent was silenced under the leadership of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Kangana Ranaut not only stars in the film but also takes on the roles of director and producer, portraying the complex character of Indira Gandhi.
Trailer Details and Strategic Release Plan
Recently, Bollywood Hungama reported that the trailer, which runs for 2 minutes and 57 seconds, has received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). It will be attached to the prints of Vedaa, an upcoming film featuring John Abraham and Sharvari, which is also produced by Zee Studios—the same studio behind Emergency.
A source explained the strategy behind this decision: “Since Emergency is produced by Zee Studios, which also backs Vedaa, they recognized that a significant audience would be watching Vedaa. They felt this would be an opportune moment to showcase the trailer for this ambitious project and generate buzz.”
Emergency features an impressive ensemble cast, led by Ranaut as Indira Gandhi. The film also stars veteran actor Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Mahima Chaudhary as Pupul Jayakar, Milind Soman as Sam Manekshaw, and the late Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram, promising a powerful portrayal of this pivotal historical moment.
