As February 14 approaches, fans of the legendary Madhubala prepare to celebrate her 92nd birth anniversary. “It’s an extremely special day for me and my family. The day is a celebration of my sister’s timeless charm and beauty,” says Madhur Brij Bhushan, Madhubala’s youngest sister. Madhubala, a cinematic icon of the 50s and 60s, captivated audiences with her unparalleled talent and beauty. Her life and legacy have long been a point of fascination for actors and filmmakers alike. Naturally, the announcement of a Madhubala biopic by Sony Pictures in early 2023 created significant buzz. However, nearly two years after signing the agreement in May 2023, Madhur expresses frustration over the lack of progress.
“We are in 2025 now, and I’m still anxiously waiting for updates on the film’s start date or muhurat,” says Madhur. She adds, “It’s embarrassing to admit, but I have no answers because Sony Pictures has only given vague responses. The endless delay is frustrating and disheartening.”Despite sending multiple follow-ups, including a detailed personal email, Madhur claims there has been no reply from Sony. Recently, through her legal team, she served a notice to the studio. “I had no choice. As a senior citizen, this long wait makes me deeply unhappy and helpless.
But I am determined, along with my partners, to ensure the film is made.”The delays have affected Madhur’s plans to honor her sister’s memory, such as installing a statue, supporting an old-age home, and starting a music school. “This delay has derailed everything. My simple question to Sony is: Are you serious about the biopic? Please provide clarity.”Despite the setbacks, Madhur remains hopeful about the biopic, calling it a “true tribute” to Madhubala. “Madhu aapa was a family girl who loved simple joys despite her stardom. I just hope the film is made soon so I can see my dream come true.”
