After a promising weekend that showed some momentum, Pankaj Tripathi’s Main Atal Hoon experienced a significant drop in its box office collection on its first Monday, earning an estimated Rs 80 lakh, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
To achieve a healthy lifetime collection, it was crucial for Main Atal Hoon to match its opening day numbers of Rs 1.15 crore. Unfortunately, the film fell short, making its journey ahead at the box office challenging. As of now, the film has accumulated a total of Rs 6.45 crore. With only two clear days remaining before the release of the much-anticipated Hrithik Roshan-Deepika Padukone starrer Fighter on January 25, Main Atal Hoon faces tough competition as Fighter is expected to occupy a significant number of screens, impacting the showcasing of Main Atal Hoon.
The film is aiming to reach a lifetime collection in the range of Rs 10 crore. Directed by Ravi Jadhav and co-written by Jadhav and Rishi Virmani, Main Atal Hoon is a biopic on the life of former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The film also features Piyush Mishra, Raja Rameshkumar Sevak, Daya Shankar Pandey, Payal Nair, Paula McGlynn, and Gauri Sukhtankar in pivotal roles.
In a 2-star review by The Indian Express’ Shubhrta Gupta, the film is described as a rah-rah hagiography of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, despite Pankaj Tripathi’s inspired portrayal. The film fails to do justice to the multiple facets of Vajpayee’s life.
Main Atal Hoon marks Pankaj Tripathi’s first release of the year. Audiences can also look forward to seeing him in the horror comedy Stree 2 and Anurag Basu’s romantic drama anthology Metro In Dino. Looking at the current trend, the film is not going to make much at the box office, however, the performance of the lead actor Pankaj Tripathi has been increidble for the character assigned to him. But performance remains just the one part while collection remains another one.
