Actor Neha Sharma was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday as part of its ongoing investigation into alleged money laundering linked to an online betting application. Sharma, who is also the daughter of Congress leader Ajit Sharma, was summoned by the agency to provide details about her connection with the platform.
Officials cited by PTI confirmed that Sharma’s statement is being recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Investigators are reportedly looking into her involvement through promotional activities related to the betting app. Neha Sharma has not yet made any public statement regarding the inquiry. Known for her roles in films like Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 (2013), Solo (2017), and Tanhaji (2020), Sharma has also ventured into digital content with the series Illegal and appeared in notable short films such as Kriti and Vikalp. Her questioning is part of a broader scrutiny by the ED of celebrities associated with the betting platform.
In recent months, the agency has summoned several public figures, including Sonu Sood, Vijay Deverakonda, Prakash Raj, Urvashi Rautela, Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh, and Rana Daggubati. Addressing the media after his summons in July, actor Prakash Raj said, “As a citizen, I cooperated with the inquiry regarding the money laundering linked to betting apps. My involvement was back in 2016, but I did not pursue it further on moral grounds. I informed them I did not receive any money, and the enquiry concluded.”
Similarly, Vijay Deverakonda clarified after his questioning in August, “I was summoned because my name was linked to a betting app case. However, I promoted a legal gaming app called A23, which is registered and operates with necessary approvals and taxes. There is a clear distinction between betting apps and gaming apps.”
