The first half of 2023 ended on a positive note, with the latest Bollywood release, Satyaprem Ki Katha, performing well in its opening extended weekend of four days. The film opened on Thursday with a collection of 9.25 crores (92.5 million), which was a partial holiday due to Eid. As expected, the collection dipped on Friday to 7 crores (70 million), which was a working day. However, the collection saw a significant increase on Saturday to 10.25 crores (102.5 million), followed by 12 crores (120 million) on Sunday.
In total, the film has earned 38.35 crores (383.5 million) in its opening weekend. Despite dealing with a serious subject, Satyaprem Ki Katha has managed to appeal to family audiences. With stars like Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani in the lead, the film is expected to have a good run at the box office. A lifetime collection of 50 crores (500 million) would be considered a success for a film with smaller stars, but anything over 75 crores (750 million) would be considered a major success for Satyaprem Ki Katha.
Last week’s release 1920: Horrors of the Heart collected a bit more in the second weekend, bringing its total above 14.50 crores (145 million). The film’s nominal cost means that it is a safe bet commercially. Producer Dinesh Vijan is certainly a happy man, as his film Zara Hatke Zara Bachke is still raking in the dough in its fifth weekend. The romantic comedy-drama has reached yet another milestone of 85 crores (850 million rupees), and it still has some steam left in it.
