Saathiya, the film that stole our hearts 23 years ago, still remains a memorable gem in Bollywood. In that year, Adnan Sami’s melodious tunes had us all humming along, Sonu Nigam showcased his vocal prowess, and Gulzar’s poetic lines resonated deeply. It was also the year when Shah Rukh Khan demonstrated how cameos could be flawlessly executed. Starring Vivek Oberoi and Rani Mukerji, Saathiya surprised audiences with its unique storytelling, blending different time zones and offering a fresh style to Indian cinema.
I vividly recall watching this Shaad Ali film on TV for the first time around 2006, instantly falling in love with it. As a devoted fan of Yash Raj Films, I yearned to experience it in a theater. Thankfully, I recently had the opportunity to watch it on the big screen, 23 years after its release. The burning question that arises is whether it stands the test of time. Does it still possess the innocence, mischief, confusion, complexities, and realistic locations that captivated us before?
Partially, yes, but for the complete answer, you’ll have to stay with me until the end. While watching the film, I found myself immersed in a parallel universe, simultaneously experiencing it in the present and in 2006. Trust me, it was an overwhelming feeling of “Everything, Everywhere, All At Once.” During my viewing, three dominant thoughts occupied my mind: Shah Rukh Khan & Tabu Film – Kahan Ho Tum?! It’s been three decades since the entry of SRK and Tabu into the industry, and yet, they have never shared the screen together.
How is that possible? More importantly, why? In Saathiya, these two superstars make a significant appearance, altering the course of the story. Their on-screen charisma and command captivate the audience. But my mind couldn’t help but ponder: Why hasn’t Bollywood paired SRK and Tabu together? I’m still waiting for this dream collaboration. (Cinema Gods, if you’re listening, please make it happen!) Vivek Oberoi Is Powerful! There was a time when people speculated that Vivek Oberoi could be the next Shah Rukh Khan of the industry if he played his cards right.
