The re-release season that kicked off with Rockstar (2011) earlier this year has gained significant momentum. This trend has been fueled in part by a lull in major cinematic releases following the high-stakes competition between Stree 2, Vedaa, and Khel Khel Mein. Recently, audiences enjoyed the re-releases of Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein (2001), both parts of Gangs of Wasseypur, and Kantara. Notably, Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, featuring R. Madhavan and Dia Mirza, has opened to packed houses across numerous theaters, signaling a strong appetite for nostalgic cinema.Looking ahead, Shah Rukh Khan fans have reason to celebrate as two of his classic films, Pardes (1997) and Veer-Zaara (2004), are set to return to theaters. According to sources, Veer-Zaara is scheduled for release on September 13, with select shows each day, and additional screenings planned based on demand.
As for Pardes, it is expected to hit the screens on either September 20 or 27, with a confirmed date to be announced soon. Directed by Subhash Ghai, Pardes features Mahima Chaudhry and Apurva Agnihotri, and will be joined by Ghai’s other iconic film, Taal (1999), which is also set to re-release on September 20, starring Akshaye Khanna, Anil Kapoor, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.Additionally, fans of Anil Kapoor may have the chance to revisit Tezaab, as Zee Studios is reportedly considering its re-release in the latter half of next month.
This film, featuring Madhuri Dixit Nene, is famous for its song “Ek Do Teen,” which has achieved cult status. While there were initial discussions about Tumbbad (2018) being released on August 30, it has now been confirmed for a re-release on September 13.Furthermore, two older classics, Laila Majnu (2018) and Salman Khan’s Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), are also performing well in theaters. The re-release of Laila Majnu has particularly surprised industry insiders, given that it only grossed ₹2.89 crores during its initial run six years ago. Current projections suggest that its re-release could potentially rake in between ₹8 crores and ₹10 crores.
