Pushpa 2 – The Rule is set to release on December 5, and as expected for a major film, exhibitors have opted for premium pricing. However, audiences were taken aback by the steep ticket prices at some cinemas. For the first time, Mumbai’s Gaiety-Galaxy has raised balcony ticket prices to ₹200, while PVR Maison in BKC, Mumbai, initially priced Luxe screen tickets for evening and night shows at a staggering ₹3000, later reducing it to ₹2200.Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar, expressed his concerns, stating, “Not everyone is heartless to increase prices exponentially.
A 15-20% hike is understandable, but if cinemas that sold tickets for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 at ₹400 are now charging ₹600 or ₹700, it feels like they want audiences to visit only a few times a year. Should we only screen films for 10 weeks and use the space as a banquet hall for the rest of the year? While I understand the need for slight increases due to fewer shows, anything over 20% is simply exploitative and unfair to the audience.”Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal echoed these sentiments, noting that high ticket prices can deter audiences, especially on a non-holiday Thursday.
Kiritbhai T Vaghasia, who operates The Friday Cinema multiplex in Surat, shared his approach to pricing: “I haven’t raised ticket prices significantly because of increased competition in the area with two new theatres opening nearby. My rates are only ₹50 higher than for Singham Again, and not a single patron has complained about the prices, indicating the excitement for the film.”As the release date approaches, the industry is watching closely how these pricing strategies will impact audience turnout for Pushpa 2.
