Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha held an informal press event to discuss their maiden production, “Girls Will Be Girls,” and unveil the upcoming titles from their production house, Pushing Buttons Studios. The duo shared intriguing details about their new projects, including an adult animation film titled “Doggie Stylez.”
Richa Chadha introduced “Doggie Stylez” as a film featuring a very stylish dog, drawing parallels to popular animated series like “The Simpsons” and “BoJack Horseman.” Ali Fazal added that the film would offer endearing banter and surprise audiences, hinting at a wave of interesting animation projects emerging from Indian filmmakers in the coming year.
Explaining their decision to support an animation film, especially in a landscape where such projects are scarce in India, Richa emphasized the abundance of Indian talent in the VFX teams of Hollywood films. She highlighted the technical prowess and creativity present within the Indian film industry, underscoring the potential for impactful animation endeavors.
Directed by Ashutosh Pathak, “Doggie Stylez” is described as a tongue-in-cheek satire on modern human society, depicted through the lens of a community of dogs mimicking human behaviors and struggling to find success amidst their endeavors.
Additionally, Pushing Buttons Studios revealed their other projects, including “Papita,” directed by Aakash Bhatia, which revolves around a Mumbai-based paparazzi photographer entangled in an unexpected turn of events involving a film star. “Pinky Promise,” written by Amitosh Nagpal, portrays a modern-day Romeo and Juliet narrative set in a Himachal Pradesh hill station, promising a heartwarming and unconventional twist.
“Miss Palmoliv All Night Cabaret” is a project directed by Kamal Swaroop, narrating the story of a celibate daku, Bhavani Singh, and a cabaret dancer, Miss Palmolive. The duo eagerly discussed their collaboration with Kamal Swaroop, known for his work in “Om-Dar-B-Dar” (1988).
Lastly, “RiAlity” is a wedding documentary chronicling the love story and wedding of Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha, directed by Rahul Singh Datta.
Notably, “Girls Will Be Girls” recently garnered two prestigious awards at Sundance – the Audience Choice Award for Best Film and a Special Jury Award for the remarkable performance by lead actor Preeti Panigrahi. The film has also been selected for the esteemed South By Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival, a globally renowned event to be held in Austin, Texas, from March 8 to 17.
