In a digital era where news is rapidly evolving, experienced crime reporter Joy Bag feels increasingly obsolete. Committed to preserving print journalism, he embarks on a quest to uncover the truth behind a drug lord’s murder, initially believing it to be just another gang conflict. However, as Joy delves deeper, he becomes entangled in a far-reaching conspiracy that tests his resolve both on the perilous streets of Mumbai and within his personal life.

Review Highlights

The Times of India rated Despatch 3.0/5, noting, “While the tale is intriguing, the film’s deliberate pace and serious approach sometimes make it feel plodding, preventing it from being consistently engaging and captivating… Despatch effectively depicts crime journalism and explores the significance of information that can save or end lives. Despite its slower pace and somber tone, it’s a worthy one-time watch.”

However, the film struggles to cohesively integrate its various elements, resulting in a disjointed narrative. Characters appear and disappear without leaving a lasting impact, which keeps the audience in a state of uncertainty. The standout performance comes from Bajpayee, who fully embraces his unlikable character. He portrays a personal life marked by sleaziness, not shying away from this less-than-appealing aspect.
