In a shocking turn of events, police have arrested Faizan Khan, a lawyer from Raipur, Chhattisgarh, for allegedly making an extortion call to the Bandra police station, demanding ₹50 lakh from Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. This arrest comes in the wake of a threatening call made on November 5, prompting authorities to complete transit remand procedures to bring Khan to Mumbai for further interrogation.
During preliminary questioning, Khan asserted that his mobile phone—used for the extortion call—had been stolen on November 2, just days before the incident. Police sources indicate that the Mumbai police are keen to uncover the true motive behind the threat during their investigations in Mumbai. The investigation began when authorities traced the mobile number linked to the threat call. Following this lead, a team from Bandra police traveled to Raipur on November 7 to question Khan regarding the allegations. Despite his claims of theft, Khan had filed a First Information Report (FIR) at his local police station regarding the missing phone.
The FIR filed by the Bandra police reveals the gravity of the situation, detailing that the caller explicitly threatened Shah Rukh Khan, stating, “That Shah Rukh from Mannat Bandstand, if he doesn’t give me fifty lakhs, I’ll kill him.” When police constable Santosh Dhodke sought clarification on the caller’s identity, the response was evasive: “That doesn’t matter. If you need to write something, write my name as Hindustani.”Dikshit Gedam, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 9), confirmed the serious nature of the threats and stated, “We are investigating the case further.” Given the severity of the allegations, Bandra police have registered a case under sections 308 (extortion by threatening death) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, ensuring that the matter is treated with the utmost seriousness.
