Salaar TV Premiere Falls Short in TRP Ratings Compared to Guntur Kaaram and Naa Saami Ranga

Prabhas experienced a much-needed comeback with the release of Salaar, following the monumental success of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. After struggling to match his own standards, Prabhas found success with this Prashanth Neel directorial, which grossed over 600 crores at the worldwide box office. However, the film surprisingly received a poor response when it premiered on TV. Salaar marked the debut collaboration between Prabhas and Prashanth Neel.
Neel, fresh from the success of KGF Chapter 2, elevated the buzz surrounding the film. Despite facing a clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki in the Hindi belt, Salaar performed exceptionally well and was eventually declared a clean success. With such success and the anticipation building for the upcoming sequel, it was expected that the magnum opus would fare better during its television premiere. Unfortunately, that was not the case. During its recent world television premiere on Star Maa, Salaar received a TRP rating of just 6.5, according to Track Tollywood’s report.
This came as a shock, especially considering that even underperforming films like Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram received a better response during their television premieres. Surprisingly, Naagarjuna’s Naa Saami Ranga, a much smaller film in comparison to Salaar, managed to achieve a TRP rating of 8. There are two primary reasons behind Salaar’s underwhelming television performance.
Firstly, it is important to note that it’s currently the season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which attracts a significant portion of the television audience. Additionally, films like Salaar are primarily designed for the theatrical experience and may not find as large an audience on TV. Meanwhile, developments on Salaar 2 are progressing rapidly.
According to Pinkvilla’s report, filming is set to begin at the end of this month at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. The shoot will commence with a 10-day schedule featuring Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The makers are aiming for a release date in December 2025, with the majority of the filming likely to be completed this year.
