Sunny Deol has officially confirmed his participation in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious two-part adaptation of the Ramayana, putting an end to months of speculation. Speaking at the SCREEN Live event in Mumbai, the star of Gadar 2 shared insights about this highly anticipated project, emphasizing its goal to redefine Indian cinema through innovative technology.
Deol described the Ramayana as a long-term endeavor, likening its production scale to that of blockbuster films like Avatar and Planet of the Apes. “This is a significant project because they’re trying to create it with the same level of detail and technology as those films. The writer and director have a clear vision for how the characters should be portrayed,” he explained, hinting at the epic nature of the film. While he did not reveal his specific role, industry insiders speculate that he may take on the iconic character of Hanuman. This announcement follows closely on the heels of Ranbir Kapoor confirming his role as Ram during the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah.
Kapoor expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “I have finished shooting for Part 1 and will begin Part 2 soon. It’s a dream role that beautifully encapsulates Indian culture and family dynamics.”In light of the criticism faced by other adaptations for their visual effects, Deol assured fans that Tiwari’s Ramayana would prioritize realism and high-quality special effects. “The special effects will be so convincing that viewers will feel the events genuinely occurred,” he added, raising expectations for the film’s visual appeal.
The star-studded cast includes Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, with Kannada superstar Yash portraying Ravan. The first part of Ramayana is set for a Diwali 2026 release, followed by the second part in 2027.
