The much-anticipated film Adipurush, featuring Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, and Kriti Sanon, may have received mixed reviews from critics, but its phenomenal box office collection on the opening day indicates that audiences remain unfazed. T-Series, the film’s production company, took to social media to announce that Adipurush had amassed a staggering Rs 140 crore worldwide on its first day of release.

Trade analyst Girish Johar had previously tweeted that the film had garnered approximately Rs 35 crores from the overseas market alone, resulting in an impressive total worldwide earnings of Rs 133 crore on day one.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the magnum opus has triumphed in the Telugu market, amassing an estimated collection of Rs 58.5 crore. The Hindi version contributed Rs 35 crore to the overall total, while the Tamil and Malayalam versions secured around Rs 70 lakh and Rs 40 lakh respectively.

A report from BoxOfficeIndia.com stated, “The final overseas numbers are yet to be confirmed, but the film has already crossed the Rs 140 crore mark worldwide on the first day, and this figure could rise to Rs 150 crore once all the collections are tallied on Saturday.”

Previously, Pathaan held the title for the highest earning film of 2023, amassing Rs 106 crore worldwide on its opening day and eventually crossing the remarkable milestone of Rs 1000 crore during its entire theatrical run.

Based on the epic Ramayana, Adipurush has faced some criticism for its dialogues and visual effects. Prabhas portrays the character of Raghava (Ram), while Kriti takes on the role of Janaki (Sita), with Saif embodying the antagonist Lankesh (Ravan). Directed by Om Raut, the film reportedly boasts a budget of Rs 500 crore and also features Sunny Singh and Devdatta Nage in prominent roles.

While some critics argue that this rendition of the Ramayana fails to capture the profound religious sentiments evoked by traditional interpretations such as Tulsidas’ or Valmiki’s versions, Adipurush’s massive box office success showcases its undeniable appeal among audiences.
