In a strongly worded tweet, Mumbai Police condemned the misuse of its uniform and insignia for cheap publicity. The police also announced the arrest of the fake police inspector from the video.

“No one can violate the law of the land for cheap publicity! A viral video of a woman being allegedly arrested by Mumbai Police in an obscenity case is not true – police insignia and uniform have been misused,” the police tweeted.

The tweet added, “A criminal case has been registered against those involved in the misleading video at Oshiwara Police Station under sections 171, 419, 500, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. The fake inspector is under arrest and the vehicle has been seized.”
