Nushrratt Bharuccha was one of many Indians who were stranded in Israel during the recent conflict with Hamas. The news of her situation sent shockwaves through the Indian film industry and her fans. She had finally returned home, but she was visibly shaken and could not speak to the media mob that awaited her at the airport. In a long and emotional statement, Bharuccha has shared her experience of being in Israel during the conflict.

The Pyaar Ka Punchnama actress Nushrratt Bharuccha says that the last week in Israel, especially the final 36 hours, was a “roller coaster ride of emotions” that will remain etched in her memory. “My producer, stylist, and I flew to Haifa, Israel, on October 3 to attend the renowned Haifa International Film Festival for the screening of our latest film, Akelli, with my Israeli co-stars, Tsahi Halevi and Amir Boutrous.

After two days of exploring Israel’s historic sites, including Jerusalem, Jaffa, Baha’i, and the Dead Sea, we were about to conclude our trip with a celebratory dinner for the film’s cast on Friday night, October 6. On that evening, Tsahi, Amir, and I toasted our film’s selection at the Haifa Film Festival, promised to visit each other, and discussed the possibility of working together again. We said our goodbyes and prepared to fly back the next day.”

The next morning, Nushrratt Bharuccha and her team were awakened by the deafening sounds of bombs exploding, a wailing siren, and utter panic. They were all rushed to a shelter in the basement of their hotel. It was only after what seemed like an eternity that they emerged to learn that Israel was under attack. Nothing could have prepared them for this news.
