Diljit Dosanjh has hinted that his much-anticipated film Punjab ‘95 may finally see the light of day soon. Based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, the film has faced significant delays, remaining with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for over a year due to regulatory concerns. Previously, the CBFC requested 120 cuts for the film’s release, prompting uncertainty about its future. However, in a recent social media post on January 11, Diljit suggested that Punjab ‘95 could be released in February 2025. While he did not specify whether the film would debut in theaters or on an OTT platform, the hint has generated excitement among fans eagerly awaiting its arrival.
In his posts, Diljit shared several images from Punjab ‘95, confirming the film’s release month. Accompanying the images, he wrote, “I Challenge the Darkness. Punjab ‘95.” He also shared an Instagram story stating, “Punjab ‘95. In February,” along with a similar update on X (formerly Twitter). These posts have sparked enthusiasm among audiences who have been anticipating the film for quite some time.
The Story Behind Punjab ‘95
Punjab ‘95 chronicles the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a brave human rights activist who exposed the illegal killings and cremations of thousands of Sikh youth by the Punjab Police during the militancy period in the 1990s. Tragically, Khalra was kidnapped and murdered in 1995. Four policemen were ultimately convicted for his killing, initially receiving seven-year sentences that were later extended to life imprisonment by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Directed by Honey Trehan, Punjab ‘95 faced challenges with the CBFC, but Khalra’s wife has publicly supported the filmmakers, stating she had watched the film and had no objections. It remains unclear if any cuts were made to satisfy the board’s requirements. While the exact release date and platform have yet to be confirmed, the film features a talented cast, including Arjun Rampal and Suvinder Vicky, alongside Diljit.
