The film “Merry Christmas,” starring Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi and directed by Sriram Raghavan, was released on January 12. However, it had a slow start at the domestic box office during its opening weekend. On the first day, the thriller collected ₹2.2 crore in Hindi, ₹22 lakh in Tamil, and ₹3 lakh in Telugu. On the second day, it earned ₹3.45 crore in all languages, with ₹3.1 crore in Hindi, ₹33 lakh in Tamil, and ₹2 lakh in Telugu. Finally, on the third day, the film saw its highest collection so far, earning approximately ₹3.75 crore in India.
The film, shot simultaneously in Hindi and Tamil, tells the story of how an uneventful Christmas Eve turns the lives of two people upside down. The Hindi version of the film features Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kannan, and Tinnu Anand, while the Tamil version stars Radhika Sarathkumar, Shanmugaraja, Kevin Jay Babu, and Rajesh Williams in the same roles.
“Merry Christmas” has received mixed to positive reviews from both fans and critics. Director Anurag Kashyap took to Instagram to praise Sriram Raghavan for creating a Hitchcockian love story. He commended the two lead actors, Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, for their stellar performances.
